Dr Michael Fietz
performed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the University of
Adelaide, majoring in Biochemistry. After completing a CJ Martin Fellowship, in
which he studied the developmental genetics of Drosophila melanogaster
at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund in England, Michael returned to Australia
and took up academic positions in Hobart and Adelaide. In 1999, he moved to the
Department of Chemical Pathology at the Adelaide Women’s and Children’s
Hospital, commencing almost 20 years of leading teams in the biochemical and
molecular diagnosis of inherited disorders in both Adelaide and at the
Department of Diagnostic Genomics, PathWest, Perth. For the past two years,
Michael has worked as a Senior Sales Specialist in Clinical Informatics at
Illumina, using his experience in diagnostic pathology to assist clinical
laboratories in the integration of appropriate systems for the analysis,
interpretation and reporting of Next Generation Sequencing data.
